Overview

In this short article, ‘Rādhā-kuṇḍa and Śyāma-kuṇḍa’ first published in Sajjana Toṣaṇī, Vol.7 issue 11 in 1895, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura shares news with his readers concerning the renovation of Rādhā-kuṇḍa and Śyāma-kuṇḍa in Vraja-maṇḍala.

(translated by Swami B.V. Giri)

The glories of Rādhā-kunḍā and Śyāma-kuṇḍa are written in many śāstra. Therefore, there is no necessity for us to retrieve so many ślokas from all those śāstra. The great devotee, Śrīyuta Acyuta-caraṇa Caudhurī Mahāśaya has written the following interesting news describing the greatness of the two kuṇḍas. Devotees should read this:

“After a few pieces of propaganda were circulated in various places, many mahātmās realised their obligation and proceeded with the work. In this way, the renovation work of the two kuṇḍas has been started. It is easy to imagine how serious and costly this task is. This is the work of the general public. The honourable Gosvāmī has called upon the general public in the aforesaid advertisement and handed the task over to them. Already many dignitaries are helping with money for this work, and there is real success in regards to donations. It is certainly a sign of pride for the Hindu community. The Mahārājādhirāja king of Jaipur has endeavoured especially by recently donating equipment such as a pumping machine etc. The descendant of the famous Lālā Bābu, Śrīyukta Śārat-candra Siṁha Bāhādur, the Pābna zamindār, Śrī Rāya Bāhādur Vanamāli Rāya etc. are patrons. However, it will still take a lot of money to complete such a big task, and it depends upon the general public.”

There is no doubt that the devotees will soon take care of this important matter. Many rājās and mahārājās will pay special attention to the work in which Prabhu Rādhikānātha Gosvamī has been involved in. When both these divine kuṇḍas are renovated, supreme auspiciousness for the jīva will arise. Thus, donors who contribute money – you will have everlasting fame and will give happiness to the devotee world.
