Śrī Śrī Brahma-saṁhitā Prakāśinī CommentaryŚrī Brahma-saṁhitā Prakāśinī Commentary – Verses 1-10

Introduction

With the Prakāśinī Commentary by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura

(translated by Swami B.V. Giri)

śrī māyāpura-candro jayate

Glories unto Śrī Māyāpura Candra!

For the Attention of the Reader

In Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 9th Chapter, it is written –

sei dina cali’ āilā payasvinī-tīre
snāna kari’ gelā ādi-keśava-mandire

(On that day, the Lord came to the banks of the Payasvinī River, and after bathing, He went to the Ādi-Keśava temple.)

mahā-bhakta-gaṇa-saha tāhāṅ goṣṭhī kaila
brahma-saṁhitādhyāya-puṅthi tāhāṅ pāila

(At that place, He conversed in the association of great devotees, and discovered one chapter of the Brahma-saṁhitā.)

puṅthi pāñā prabhura haila ānanda apāra
kampāśru-sveda-stambha-pulaka vikāra

(The Lord felt unlimited bliss upon obtaining the manuscript and His body went through the divine transformations of shivering, weeping, perspiration, unconsciousness and ecstatic bliss.)

siddhānta-śāstra nāhi brahma-saṁhitā ra sama
govinda-mahimā jñānera parama kāraṇa

(There is no siddhānta-śāstra equal to Brahma-saṁhitā. It is the supreme revelation of the glories of Govinda.)

alpākṣare kahe siddhānta apāra
sakala-vaiṣṇava-śāstra-madhye ati sāra

(Infinite siddhānta is concisely discussed therein. It is the essence amongst all the Vaiṣṇava śāstra.)

bahu yatne sei puṅthi nila lekhāiyā
ananta padmanābha āilā haraṣita hañā

(With great care, He copied that manuscript, then happily travelled to Ananta Padmanābha.)

I cannot say any more than this. All I can say is that if this śāstra is considered to be amongst the most ancient of texts, then it is the most unprecedented grounds for proof of kṛṣṇa-bhakti. Supposing someone says that this śāstra does not exist in this province (Bengal), therefore Śrī Śrī Mahāprabhu is its author. If that is accepted, then could anything else give us more happiness? That is because if one discovered a book on siddhānta written by Śrī Mahāprabhu, there could never be any doubt within the Vaiṣṇava world. Whichever way it is considered, this book, Brahma-saṁhitā. is completely worshippable to the devotees.
