Bāula Saṅgīta
Song 1
(1)
āmi tomāra duḥkher duḥkhī sukher sukhī
tāi tomāre bali bhāi re
nitāi-er hāṭe giye (ore o bhāi)
nāma enechi tomāra tare
I am sad when you are sad, and I am happy when you are happy. O brothers! I sincerely tell you this! Having gone to Nitāi’s market-place (O brothers), I have brought the holy names just for you.
(2)
gaura-candra-mārkā karā, e hari-nāma rase bharā
paḍche dharā, lao yadi vadana bhore
Marked with the sign of Gaura-candra, this hari-nāma is filled with rasa. You can take it, if you fill your mouth with it!
(3)
pāpa tāpa saba dūre jā’be, sāra-maya saṁsāra ha’be
āra kono bhaya nāhi rabe, ḍubbe sukher pāthāre
All your sins and distress will go far away. This material world will become full of substance. There will be no more fear, and you will drown in an ocean of bliss.
(4)
āmi kāṅgāla artha-hīna, nāma enechi kare’ ṛṇa
dekhe āmāya ati dīna, śraddhā-mūlye deo dhore
I am wretched and insignificant, and by bringing the Holy Name here I am in debt. Seeing me as extremely fallen, please give me the price of your faith.
(5)
mūlya la’ye tomāra ṭhāi, mahā-jana ke diba, bhāi
ye kichu tāy lābha pāi, rākhba nijer bhāṇḍāre
Taking your payment, I will give it to that great personality (Nityānanda), O brothers! Whatever small commission I earn will be kept in my own storeroom.
(6)
nadīyā-godrume thāki, cāṅda bāula baliche ḍāki
nāma vinā āra sakala phāṅki, chāyābājī e saṁsāre
Living in Nadīyā at Godruma, Cāṅda Bāula loudly exclaims, “Without the Holy Name, everything is a sham! This material world is like a shadow theatre!”
