Bhagavad-gita – Chapter Three

Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura’s first Bengali commentary to the Bhagavad-gītā named ‘Rasika-Rañjana’ (‘That which delights the relishers of rasa’) was written in 1886 and was a combined translation/commentary. This commentary was based upon Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura’s Sārārtha-varṣiṇī commentary. The Ṭhākura also gave an elaborate introduction to this work describing the connection between the paths of karma, jñāna and bhakti.

Bhakti Tattva Viveka – Chapter Four

The Bhakti Tattva Viveka (Deliberations on the principles of bhakti) was originally a series of articles written by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura for the third volume of Sajjana Toṣaṇī in 1886. Bhakti Tattva Viveka comprises the essence of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī’s Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu in simple Bengali and outlines the inherent nature of bhakti (bhakti-svarūpa), the semblance of bhakti (bhakti-ābhāsa), the qualities of bhakti (bhakti-svabhāva) and the qualification to attain bhakti (bhaktyādhikāra).

Śrī Kṛṣṇa Bhajanāmṛtam – Objection 2

The book ‘Śrī Kṛṣṇa Bhajanāmṛtam’ by Śrīla Narahari Sarakāra Thākura, the associate of Mahāprabhu, deals with various controversies, and in particular the guru-disciple relationship. In 1899, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thākura published this work along with his Āsvāda-vistāriṇī Bhāṣya (‘The commentary that expands transcendental relish’) in Bengali in Sajjana Toṣaṇī, Vol. 11 Issues 1-4. The Ṭhākura’s commentary is an expanded translation of Narahari’s work.
