Chapter One
Prārthanā Dainya-mayī (Prayers Full of Humility)
(1)
kabe śrī-caitanya more karibena dayā
kabe āmi pāiba vaiṣṇava-pada-chāyā
When will Śrī Caitanya be merciful to me? When will I attain the shade of the Vaiṣṇavas’ feet?
(2)
kabe āmi chāḍiba e viṣayābhimāna
kabe viṣṇu-jane āmi kariba sammāna
When will I give up such false pride in material things? When will I honour the Vaiṣṇavas?
(3)
gala-vastra kṛtāñjali vaiṣṇava-nikaṭe
dante tṛṇa kari’ dāṇḍāiba niṣkapaṭe
When, with cloth around my neck and folded hands before the Vaiṣṇavas, holding straw in my teeth, will I stand there without deceit?
(4)
kāndiyā kāndiyā jāni’ba duḥkha-grāma
saṁsāra-anala haite māgiba viśrāma
Weeping and weeping, I will understand this world as a village of misery. From the fire of material existence I will beg for respite.
(5)
śuniyā āmāra duḥkha vaiṣṇava ṭhākura
āmā lāgi’ kṛṣṇa āvedibena pracura
Hearing of my suffering, the Vaiṣṇava Ṭhākuras will, on my behalf, plead to Kṛṣṇa.
(6)
vaiṣṇavera āvedane kṛṣṇa dayāmaya
e heno pāmare prati haibena sadoya
By the Vaiṣṇavas’ appeal, most merciful Kṛṣṇa will become compassionate toward such a fallen soul.
(7)
vinodera (kedārera) nivedana vaiṣṇava-caraṇe
kṛpā kari’ saṅge laha ei akiñcane
Bhaktivinoda’s submission at the feet of the Vaiṣṇavas: “Please be merciful and accept this destitute person in your association.”
