(1)
caitanya-candrera līlā samudra apāra
bujhite śakati nāhi ei kathā sāra
Caitanya-candra’s pastimes are an unlimited ocean. No one has the power to understand them fully. This is the essence of the matter.
(2)
śāstrera agamya tattva śrī-kṛṣṇa āmāra
tāṅra līlā anta bujhe śakati kāhāra
My Śrī Kṛṣṇa is a truth beyond the reach of śāstra. Who has the power to comprehend the limit of His pastimes?
(3)
tabe mūrkha-jana kena śāstra vicāriyā
gaura-līlā nāhi māne anta nā pāiyā
Why then do foolish people pore over the śāstras and refuse to accept gaura-līlā because they cannot find its limit?
(4)
anantera anta āche kona śāstra gāya
śāstrādhīna kṛṣṇa iha śuni’ hāsi pāya
What śāstra declares that the Infinite has an end? Hearing people claim that Kṛṣṇa is subordinate to śāstra, I can only smile.
(5)
kṛṣṇa haibena gorā icchā ha’la tāṅra
sa-vaikuṇṭha navadvīpe haila avatāra
By His own desire, Kṛṣṇa became golden in complexion. Bringing all of Vaikuṇṭha with Him, He descended in Navadvīpa.
(6)
yakhana āsena kṛṣṇa jīva uddhārite
saṅge saba sahacara āse pṛthivīte
Whenever Kṛṣṇa comes to deliver the jīvas, all His associates accompany Him to this world.
(7)
gorā avatāre tāṅra śrī-jaya-vijaya
navadvīpe śatru-bhāve haila udaya
During Gaura’s avatāra, His associates Jaya and Vijaya appeared in Navadvīpa in the role of enemies.
(8)
pūrve pūrve avatāre asura āchila
śāstre bale paṇḍita haiyā janamila
In previous avatāras they had appeared as demons. This time, they took birth as learned scholars of the śāstras.*
* By śāstrika statements such as rākṣasāḥ kalim āśritya jāyante brahma-yoniṣu (‘The Rākṣasas, taking refuge in the age of Kali, are born in brāhmaṇa families.’), it should be understood that Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa – avatāras of Jaya and Vijaya during Rāma-avatāra – appeared again during Gaura-avatāra as Smārta and Naiyāyika brāhmaṇas opposed to Śrī Gaurāṅga. Through their battles of argument and controversy, they actually served to nourish and enhance the Lord’s pastimes.
(9)
smṛti-tarka-śāstre bale vairī prakāśiyā
gorā-candra saha raṇa karila mātiyā
Citing the Smṛti and Tarka śāstras, they openly acted as opponents and eagerly fought against Gauracandra.
(10)
ataeva navadvīpa-vāsī yata jana
śrī-caitanya-līlā-puṣṭi kare anukṣaṇa
Thus, all the residents of Navadvīpa, moment after moment, nourished and enhanced the pastimes of Śrī Caitanya.
(11)
ekhana ye brahma-kule caitanyera ari
tā’ke jāni caitanyera līlā-puṣṭikārī
Even those born in brāhmaṇa families who oppose Caitanya, I understand to be instruments for enriching His pastimes.
(12)
śrī-caitanya-anucara śatru-mitra yata
sakalera śrī-caraṇe hailāma nata
I bow down at the divine feet of all Śrī Caitanya’s associates, whether they appear as friends or enemies.
(13)
tomāra kara ha kṛpā ei dāsera prati
caitanye su-dṛḍha kara vinodera (kedārera) mati
Please bestow your mercy upon this servant. Make Bhaktivinoda’s mind firmly fixed on Śrī Caitanya.
