Vijñapti (An Entreaty)

gopīnātha, mama nivedana śuna
viṣayī durjana, sadā kāma-rata,
kichu nāhi mora guṇa*
O Gopīnātha, please hear my submission. I am a worldly-minded wretch, always attached to lust. I possess no good qualities.
*Translator’s Note:The earlier version says, vijayī durjana (‘I am a victorious wretch’), although this may have been a printing error.

gopīnātha, āmāra bharasā tumi
tomāra caraṇe, lainu śaraṇa,
tomāra kiṅkara āmi
O Gopīnātha, You are my only hope. I have taken shelter of Your feet. I am Your servant.

gopīnātha, kemane śodhibe more
nā jāni bhakati, karme jaḍa-mati,
paḍechi saṁsāra-ghore
O Gopīnātha, how will You purify me? I do not know bhakti. By my karma, my mind is absorbed in matter, and I have fallen into the terrible condition of material existence.

gopīnātha, sakali tomāra māyā
nāhi mama bala, jñāna su-nirmala,
svādhīna nahe e kāyā
O Gopīnātha, everything here is Your māyā. I possess neither strength nor pure knowledge, and this body is not under my control.

gopīnātha, niyata caraṇe sthāna
māge e pāmara, kāndiyā kāndiyā,
karaha karuṇā-dāna
O Gopīnātha, this fallen soul weeps and weeps, begging for an eternal place at Your feet. Please bestow Your mercy.

gopīnātha, tumi ta’ sakali pāra
durjane tārite, tomāra śakati,
ke āche pāpīra āra
O Gopīnātha, You are capable of everything. You have the power to deliver even the most wicked person. Who could be more sinful than I?
(7)
gopīnātha, tumi kṛpā-pārābāra
jīvera kāraṇe, āsiyā prapañce,
līlā kaile su-vistāra
O Gopīnātha, You are an ocean of mercy. For the sake of the jīvas, You descend into this world and perform Your extensive pastimes.
(8)
gopīnātha, āmi ki doṣera doṣī
asura sakala, pāila caraṇa,
vinoda (kedārera) thākila basi’
O Gopīnātha, by what fault am I so condemned? All the Asuras attained shelter at Your feet, yet Vinoda alone remains left behind.
