Overview

In this brief editorial, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura explains his plans to publish the Govinda Bhāṣya of Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa, whilst first seeking to expand the subscriber base of the magazine. As the inaugural article written for Sajjana Toṣaṇī, this piece establishes the journal’s scholarly mission and vision for disseminating Vaiṣṇava philosophy. In the first issue, an introduction to the Vedānta Śāstra has been written. We will gradually publish the Vedanta-sūtra, its commentaries and translations in this magazine. The Śrīmad Govinda-bhāṣya commentary on the Vedānta-sūtra will be published in this magazine. The world renowned Śrī Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa Paṇḍita Bābājī Mahodaya is the author of this commentary. At some point, his biography will also be published in this magazine.

We would start publishing the Vedānta in this issue, but due to the number of recent subscribers, only a small number of copies are being printed. If any part of the Vedānta is printed in small numbers, then that part may not be available later for those who are interested. Therefore, the appeal to the general public is that they should subscribe before the next issue is published, and we will print as many copies that are necessary. The price of this magazine is small, that is, it will not cost more than 1 Anna per year. Considering that valuable books such as the Vedānta etc. can be obtained at such a low price, the sajjanas (gentle devotees) should immediately become subscribers. We hope to get the help of all sajjanas.
