Śrī Nāma Mahimā
by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura
translated by Swami Bhaktivijñāna Giri
Śrī Nāma Mahimā (The Glories of the Holy Name) was published in 1892 as an individual pamphlet for mass distribution and was initially the fifth chapter of Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura’s Vaiṣṇava-siddhānta-mālā. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura writes a brief introduction to Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī’s Nāmāṣṭakam (a glorification of the Holy Name from Stava-mālā), his own translation to each Sanskrit śloka and a Bengali song explaining each verse. He concludes with three more songs glorifying the names of Kṛṣṇa (yaśomatī-nandana, bara sukhera khabar gāi and dayāl nitāi-caitanya). All these songs were later included in his Gītāvalī songbook.
