Śrī Nāma Mahimā

by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura

translated by Swami Bhaktivijñāna Giri

ŚrΔ« Nāma Mahimā (The Glories of the Holy Name) was published in 1892 as an individual pamphlet for mass distribution and was initially the fifth chapter of Bhaktivinoda αΉ¬hākura’s VaiαΉ£αΉ‡ava-siddhānta-mālā. Bhaktivinoda αΉ¬hākura writes a brief introduction to ŚrΔ«la RΕ«pa Gosvāmī’s Nāmāṣṭakam (a glorification of the Holy Name from Stava-mālā), his own translation to each Sanskrit Ε›loka and a Bengali song explaining each verse. He concludes with three more songs glorifying the names of KαΉ›αΉ£αΉ‡a (yaΕ›omatΔ«-nandana, bara sukhera khabar gāi and dayāl nitāi-caitanya). All these songs were later included in his GΔ«tāvalΔ« songbook.
