Overview
In this short editorial, Bhakta Manovedanā (The Anguish of a Devotee) published in Sajjana Toṣaṇī, Vol.10, issue 7 in 1899. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura decries the killing of animals in Jagannātha Purī, especially monkeys, and laments the local governments decision to build a latrine next to the sacred temple of Lord Jagannātha.

Nowadays, a type of anti-Vaiṣṇava behaviour has appeared in Śrī Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra. I have heard that some arrogant people have taken up the habit of killing monkeys. Slaughtering monkeys is most certainly the conduct of a non-devotee. The benevolent and gallant government has declared the killing of monkeys in Vraja-dhāma as a major offence. Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra is a Vaiṣṇava kṣetra just like Śrī Vṛndāvana. If you kill a monkey there, it will certainly be an act against the government. It is necessary to propagate that monkeys, peacocks etc. cannot be killed within five krośas (11 miles) of Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra.
I have also heard that a public toilet was being set up on the south wall of the Śrī Mandira. This act of the Municipal Commissioner is most unfortunate. The four walls around the temple have a wide access road for the general public. That path is also a special part of the temple. There should be no unclean deeds on it. Rather, a latrine can be installed for the benefit of the pilgrims by arranging a space outside the four lanes around the temple for such a necessity. In this regard, we will inform you as we know more information.

In this important article, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura explains the absolute necessity for a Vaiṣṇava to cultivate compassion for other living beings and states that this is one of the most important qualities of a devotee.
The Sunrise of Eternal Dharma (Nitya Dharma Sūryodaya)
This important article "Nitya Dharma Sūryodaya (The Sunrise of Eternal Dharma)" which was first published in 1885 in Volume 4, Issue 3 of Sajjana Toṣaṇī, predicts the spread of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s nāma-saṅkīrtana movement all over the world.
On 18th August 2012, on the occasion of his Vyāsa Pūjā, Śrīla Bhakti Gaurava Narasiṅgha Mahārāja announced to the devotees that he had a strong desire to create a website called “Bhaktivinoda Institute” in honour of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura and his teachings in order to preserve and propagate them.
