Śrī Māyāpura ki ki haiyeche (What is Happening in Śrī Māyāpura) was first published in Sajjana Toṣaṇī Vol.5 issue 12 in 1893. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura gives a summary of the upcoming Gaura Pūrṇīmā festival in Śrīdhāma Māyāpura including the installation of the Deities and the saṅkīrtana being held during the lunar eclipse that year.

We have heard from our faithful friends that many pure devotees of Gaura are determined to build a proper temple, a nāṭa-mandira, a place for storing food, a storeroom and a proper gate on the actual place of Śrī Jagannātha Miśra at the Yogapīṭha in Śrī Māyāpura. Also they will prepare a temple to Śrī Pañca-Tattva and an area for saṅkīrtana at the nearby Śrīvāsa-aṅgana. That is why they will go to all parts of Bengal to seek help from rājās, mahārājās, great personalities and other devotees. Recently, due to the beginning of a mahā-yoga (1) the construction of brick and stone houses was halted and temporary residences have been built in that place. There, in the correct place, the Deities of Śrī Gaurāṅga-Viṣṇupriyā will be displayed. We have also heard that the Deities of Śrī Kiśora-Gopāla and Kiśorījī will be situated there. We cannot say now what a wonderful sight that will be.

I have heard that respected gosvāmīs and visiting Vaiṣṇavas will come together and perform the installation, pūjā etc. On the evening of the 7th of Caitra, the adhivāsa (preliminary activities) and maṅgalācaraṇa (auspicious recitations) will be performed.

In the morning of the 8th of Caitra, the installation will be done and after that, pūjā and bhoga will be offered. Then there will be śrī-nāma-saṅkīrtana etc. After playing with colours in the afternoon, (2) there will be sandhyā-āratrika, and at the time of the eclipse, there will be janma-pūjā (worship commemorating the appearance of Mahāprabhu), nagarasaṅkīrtana and all-night kīrtana.

On the morning of the 9th of Caitra, Śrī Miśrotsava (the festival of Jagannātha Miśra) will be observed according to the rules of Śrī Nandotsava. Later, after the festival begins, there will be continuous joyful singing. We have heard that a melā (fair) will be held starting from the temple to the banks of Śrī Gaṅgā. In various places on the ghāṭas of the Gaṅgā, musical instruments will play harmoniously.

We have also heard that at the time of the eclipse the satisfied brāhmaṇas, paṇḍitas, gosvāmīs and devotees when taking their bath in the waters of the Jāhnavī will say “O, we have never seen such a manifest pastime!” The tumultuous saṅkīrtana of the Names of Śrī Gaurahari along with the sound and glamour of musical instruments will give happiness to their ears and eyes. Oh, what is our good fortune to attain such a sight as this! If Śrī Gaurāṅga is merciful, we will surely attain such a vision.

(1) In astrology, a mahā-yoga is a particular combination of planets.

(2) ‘Playing with colours’ refers to Gaura Pūrṇimā also being the festival of Holi where powdered colours are thrown.
