su-ramyādi guṇa-gaṇa, hañāche vibhūṣaṇa
lalanā-ucita yata-dūra
pṛthu-prema su-mādhurya, sampadera su-prācurya
śrī-kṛṣṇa-vallabhā rasa-pūra

His beloved consorts are adorned with all the charming feminine qualities, such as exquisite beauty, grace, and loveliness, to the highest conceivable degree. They are abundantly endowed with the wealth of vast prema and supreme sweetness. Thus the beloveds of Śrī Kṛṣṇa constitute a full reservoir of transcendental rasa.

vallabhā ta’ dvi-prakāra, svakīya parakīyā āra
mugdhā madhyā pragalbheti traya
keha vā nāyikā tāhāṅa, keha sakhī haite cāhāṅa
nije ta’ nāyikā nāhi haya

Kṛṣṇa’s beloveds are of two principal types: svakīyā (wedded heroines) and parakīyā (unwedded heroines). These heroines are further classified as mugdhā (innocent), madhyā (intermediate), and pragalbhā (bold). Some act directly as heroines, while others desire only to serve as sakhīs and do not themselves assume the role of a heroine.

nāyikā-gaṇa-pradhāna, rādhā candrā dui jana
saundarya-vaidagdhya-guṇāśraya
sei dui madhye śreṣṭha, rādhikā kṛṣṇera preṣṭha
mahā-bhāva-svarūpa-nilaya

Among all Kṛṣṇa’s heroines, Rādhā and Candrāvalī are the two foremost. Both are reservoirs of unsurpassed beauty, skill, and refinement. Yet of these two, Rādhikā is supreme, for She is the dearmost beloved of Kṛṣṇa and the very abode of mahā-bhāva in its fullest manifestation.

āra yata nitya-priyā, nija nija yūtha lañā
se duṅhāra karena sevana
śrī-rūpānuga jana, śrī-rādhikā-śrī-caraṇa
vinā nāhi jāne anya dhana

All the other eternal beloved gopīs belong to various groups and render service to one or the other of these two principal heroines. But the followers of Śrī Rūpa know no treasure other than the divine feet of Śrī Rādhikā.
