Sāttvika-bhāva (Constitutional Ecstasies)
(1)
sthāyī-bhāva-āviṣṭa citta, pāiya vibhāva-vitta
udbhaṭa bhāve āpanāra
prāṇa-vṛtte nyāsa kare, prāṇa sei nyāsa-bhare
deha prati vikṛti cālāya
When the consciousness becomes absorbed in sthāyī-bhāva and attains the wealth of vibhāva, then an extraordinary condition arises spontaneously. The life-air is regulated and offered, and by that regulated life-force various transformations of the body are produced.
(2)
vaivarṇya romāñca sveda, stambha kampa svara-bheda
pralayāśru – ei aṣṭa vikāra
sañcārī ye bhāva-caya, harṣāmarṣa āra bhaya
viṣāda vismayādi tā’ra
The eight sāttvika-vikāras are: discoloration of the body, standing of the hairs on end, perspiration, paralysis, trembling, faltering of the voice, and shedding of tears like devastation. The sañcārī-bhāvas are thirty-three in number, including jubilation, anger, fear, sorrow, and wonder.
(3)
pravṛtti-kāraṇa haya, līlā-kāle rase laya
āpane karaya anukṣaṇa
dhūmāyitā ujjvalitā, dīptā āra su-uddīptā
ei cāri avasthā-lakṣaṇa
According to the activity taking place in the līlā, the rasa becomes manifest and functions continuously of its own accord. These are the four stages of intensity – dhūmāyitā, ujjvalitā, dīptā, and su-uddīptā.
(4)
yāra ye adhikāra, sāttvika-vikāra tāra
sei lakṣaṇe haya to’ udaya
mahā-bhāva daśā yathā, su-uddīptā bhāva tathā
anāyāse su-lakṣitā haya
One manifests sāttvika-vikāra according to one’s qualification. These symptoms arise according to one’s position. Only in the stage of mahā-bhāva, as in Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, does the extremely blazing condition of su-uddīptā bhāva become fully and clearly manifest.
